One contractor is dead, and two more injured, after a section of scaffolding collapsed at the Hyde Resort & Residences construction site in Hollywood, Florida.
The workers had been painting a mural on the building’s facade when their scaffolding gave way, leaving them suspended 40 feet above the ground in their safety harnesses. One man remained in critical condition at Memorial Regional Hospital, while another had minor injuries, according to Hollywood Police.
“Security and safety are, and always have been, a priority at every one of our construction sites, and an internal investigation of today’s events is underway,” Eric Fordin, vice president of the development group, [Related Group, Fortune International Group and SBE], said in a statement. “We are deeply concerned and send heartfelt thoughts to the individuals involved and their families.”
This is the second fatal accident this week for general contractor John Moriarty & Associates, following an indecent in Miami in which scaffolding and building materials fell at the Echo Brickell job site. One person was left dead, and five were injured.
Hollywood Fire inspectors and Hollywood Police are investigating the accident.
