Ohio Governor John Kasich recently signed HB 463 and part of this new legislation bans the use of plywood on vacant and abandoned properties. HousingWire staffer Ben Lane reports on this newly-signed law, which gives mortgage servicers in the state of Ohio three months to end the use of plywood to secure abandoned properties.

Robert Klein, the founder and chairman of Community Blight Solutions applauded this move by the state of Ohio as it advances the fight against neighborhood blight and the move to clearboarding:

“Plywood is an outdated solution to a growing modern-day problem. We need to apply 21st century solutions to reverse the trends that are decimating our neighborhoods,” Klein continued. “It is my hope that other states will follow Ohio’s leadership and enact similar legislation.”
