Centex Corp. executive vice president and chief legal officer, Raymond Smerge, said he will retire effective Dec. 31, 2004. He has been with the company for 36 years. Brian Woram, who currently serves as general counsel of Centex Homes, will succeed Smerge. Filling the newly created position of senior vice president of organization development will be Jonathan Wheeler.

In related news, it was announced that Mark Moffitt has joined Centex Homes as CFO for the builder's Irvine, Calif.-based south coast division. Moffitt has more than 25 years of experience in the industry in both Southern California and Arizona.

Bob Brownell, CEO of Bielinski Homes of Wisconsin, is stepping down to allow COO Larry Gruber to take top spot as CEO. Gruber joined Bielinski as director of production in 2003.

Holiday Builders of Florida has hired Ronald Tuttle to serve as president of the company's northwest Florida division. Tuttle brings 25 years of management experience in the home building industry.

Palatine-based Concord Homes, one of Chicago's largest home builders, has promoted Mike Bednarek to vice president of residential construction. In other company news, Bill French has joined the company as director of land acquisition and government approvals.

Ralph Pistone has been named vice president of construction operations for the



and Ventura counties operations of Pardee Homes. Pistone will oversee all construction activities of Pardee's single-family and multifamily residential neighborhoods.

New Jersey-based K. Hovnanian Homes has promoted two executives. Andre Miesnieks was named president of the company's north central area, which includes counties in New Jersey and Northeastern Pennsylvania. Succeeding him as vice president of region operations is Michael Villane, who formerly served as the company's vice president of marketing and sales.
