The Greenbuild KB Home ProjeKt is a showcase for collaboration, not just the innovative partnership behind the project, but, perhaps even more importantly, the potential for the relationship between a home and the people who live in it.

Consumer-driven design and “choice” have always been the essential cornerstones of the KB Home brand. KB Home led the industry in bringing consumer-driven design to the production-home market in décor and home configuration choices, with our innovative business model that combines desirability, attainability and reliability. The Greenbuild KB Home ProjeKt takes that concept to the next level with a home design that literally interacts with its residents in a flexible, organic way and embraces a holistic, “giving” approach to environmentally thoughtful home building. This evolving paradigm looks at sustainability in terms of not just what home owners can save in terms of energy, money and natural resources, but what a sustainable, environmentally thoughtful home can give its residents in terms of an easier, more satisfying life. We believe this paradigm is the future of sustainable home building, creating a desirable and aspirational lifestyle that operates in harmony with both residents and the environment.

The Greenbuild KB Home ProjeKt is a “hybrid home” design, where a single, flexible space can be configured and reconfigured seamlessly to serve multiple functions with exceptional design and efficiency. From a client meeting in the home office, with its private entrance, to an entertaining space for parties to a guest room for visiting family. All in a single room in a single day. This hybrid home approach is powered by a moveable wall, fold-down built-in furniture and rotating video panel. Each configuration driven by each individual home owner’s needs, choices and lifestyle. In addition to a moveable wall, cartridges that make up the home can be replaced to accommodate a change in lifestyle or family composition or simply reflect new trends and products as they emerge. Consumers no longer need to make a one-time decision about décor choices and functionality at the time they purchase their home. The home design can evolve over time, easily and organically adjusting from day to day, as well as taking larger evolutionary leaps over the life of the home. Rather than being a static event, the design of the home is ongoing and evolving, with all the tools in the consumer’s hands to make those choices and create true next-generation engagement with the environments in which they live.

Additionally, the Greenbuild KB Home ProjeKt also contains thoughtful “home aware” features that anticipate the needs of its residents. The home essentially trains itself to recognize your preferences – from lighting at different times of day to musical selections to the temperature of the room. Thus, not only does the homeowner get to make choices of the features in the home at purchase, they continue to benefit from the value of choice.

This flexible, multi-functional and interactive approach also enables a smaller physical footprint while actually increasing functionality compared to a traditional floor plan with single-use, fixed -wall rooms. So, in addition to embodying highly desirable, future-oriented design, the home reduces energy and natural resource requirements. The componentized system also extends the potential life of the home by making it easier to replace outdated components or do a style update, without the hassles of major construction.

The Greenbuild KB Home ProjeKt will be showcased October 5 and 6 at the Greenbuild International Show and Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center. To experience this interactive, flexible home environment for yourself, sign up to take a tour.
