A new modular home builder in Minneapolis is building affordable prefab houses in the north part of the city, where residents have been hard hit by foreclosures and predatory lending.
But the company's mission may soon expand beyond providing affordable housing, reports Finance & Commerce writer Brian Johnson. Sm+RT Homes managing partner Gary Findell told Johnson he wants to partner with local builder Dynamic Homes on a modular home manufacturing plant in north Minneapolis.
Minneapolis City Council Member Blong Yang said Sm+RT Homes has mentioned the idea, but hasn’t offered any specifics yet. Yang cautioned that the discussions have been “very, very preliminary.” “But for them to do something like that and bring in 100-plus jobs, that would be a fantastic thing to do,” said Yang, who represents the city’s Ward 5.
