Joshua Freed owns Element Residential, a home building company in Seattle. He's also the former mayor of Bothell and currently a city council member of the same town.

When a local home buyer noticed problems with the new home she bought from Element Residential in the Bentley subdivision of Bothell - cracks in the drywall, a bulge in the dining room floor, tiling folding in the master bathroom - she didn't want to turn to her city council for help, knowing Freed was a member.

Reporters for Seattle Times noted this isn't the first criticism of Freed. As Mayor, Freed purchased part of a golf course right after the city's own proposal had lapsed and then sold the lot for $7.1 million.

One home buyer has hired Dave von Beck, a Seattle lawyer known for suing Shea Homes last year, to help her get Element Residential to fix her home.
