A recent report by the American Lands Alliance questions the environmental legitimacy of the American Forest & Paper Association's Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). The report documents "glaring differences between what the timber industry says in its advertising and does on the ground." The report says SFI-certified practices include such things as the logging of old growth forests, wilderness areas, and endangered species' habitat. The report also accuses SFI-certified companies of massive clear cutting and the spraying of toxic chemicals while at the same time marketing their products as sustainable.
