M.D.C. Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: MDC) said Thursday its Richmond American Homes of California subsidiary recently opened two communities in northern California: Mulberry at University District in Rohnert Park and Willow at Emerson Ranch in Oakley.

Richmond American is the first home builder to begin construction in the highly anticipated, 1,400-home-site University District master plan. Adjacent to Sonoma State University and the Green Music Center, Mulberry at University District offers buyers a relaxing lifestyle in sought-after Sonoma County.

Mulberry features two-story floor plans with up to five bedrooms and approximately 2,800 square feet, priced from the low $600,000s. All homes in the new community offer upscale standard features, such as versatile lofts and lavish master suites with retreats and spa-like baths, and options include main-floor guest suites.

The company said anticipation for this new community was so great that more than 200 visitors attended its grand opening celebration and, upon announcement of the initial release of home sites, buyers camped out overnight at the community Sales Center for the opportunity to purchase a new home. Within an hour of the release, all homes were claimed.

More than 150 agents and prospective home buyers attended the grand opening of Willow at Emerson Ranch in Contra Costa County. Willow is part of the established Emerson Ranch masterplan, which offers homes for growing families and a community-centered park with soccer fields, baseball diamonds and a covered picnic area surrounded by a scenic lake and fountains.

Willow offers two-story floor plans with up to four bedrooms and approximately 2,150 square feet, from the low $400,000s. The homes include airy 9' ceilings, GE® stainless-steel appliances, granite countertops, tankless water heaters and low-E3 high-performance solar-cooling windows.

A total of 103 homes are planned for Willow. Phase One is completely sold out, leaving lone the newly released Phase Two homes at the community.
