Meritage sold a total of 590 homes in July and August, net of cancellations, compared up from 479 in the same period last year. July sales of 320 homes were up 39% over 2010; August sales of 270 homes in 2011 were 8% higher than in the previous year.
Meritage said it started the third quarter with 2% fewer active communities than it had a year earlier.
The Company is scheduled to report third quarter results on October 27.Meritage and Ryland both pre-released sales data in advance of a Tuesday housing investor conference in Dallas.
Stephen East at Ticonderoga Securities said in a research note, "We find this result doubly impressive given that MTH is working with basically flat community count. MTH has done an excellent job driving growth with its energy efficient home push. Its execution of this program is just better than peers' efforts and we believe it provides a roadmap for continued outperformance on the Orders front."
