Located in Stafford, Va., just one hour south of Washington, single-family home sales are booming in the new community of Apple Grove. "Buyers are thrilled to find us and see they can have a bigger floor plan in this price range," says Ryland Homes director of sales Blair Diseati. "We are getting first-time buyers along with move-up and empty-nesters." The buyers are a mix of military and government workers who commute into Washington and the metro-area military bases.

Four plans are offered and the Lakeland is the most popular with a walk-in closet in the master bedroom suite and three bedrooms on the second floor. There is plenty of elbow room for entertaining in the large family room, living room, kitchen, and dining room. All floor plans have a bonus room that can be converted into an additional bedroom or home office.

With a population of nearly 100,000, the town itself is one of the fastest growing in Northern Virginia. A new regional airport is scheduled to open in December 2001.
