By Christina B. Farnsworth. Pinole Gardens creates an all-important sense of home for its senior residents and visitors through careful use of scale and residential detailing, such as shake siding, double-hung windows, and trellises.
It's hard to tell from the curb that Pinole Gardens is a licensed multi-use residential care facility with 41 units of assisted living and 31 units of special care for residents suffering from Alzheimer's or dementia. The facility also offers adult day care.
Modestly sized units range from 280 to 560 square feet. Windows typically face either landscaped courtyards shaded by wooden trellises or the open space surrounding the facility.
