By Charles Wardell. Since home builders will have to comply with the new International Residential Code (IRC), the NAHB wants to make sure they have a voice in its development. But while NAHB members comprised one-third of the committee that created the first version in 2000, they've since lacked a formal agreement with the International Code Council, which publishes the IRC. Now the two organizations have inked a formal agreement that continues the NAHB representation at the same level.

The NAHB says that home builder support played a key role in getting the code adopted in Texas, Utah, Indiana, and Michigan.
